Last year, on the 250th anniversary of Lexington and Concord, brothers James and Alan Breed recreated their patriot ancestor John Preston’s march from Danvers to the village of Menotomy, current-day Arlington. The first battles had already been fought by the time the alarm was raised in Danvers. But John and younger brother Levi hot-footed it down there in about four hours and took part in what ended up being the bloodiest fighting of the day. Danvers lost more men that day than any other town besides Lexington. Alan thought folks might get a kick out of a 60-year-old dude walking about 20 miles in a stupid hat and a pair of authentic straight-lasted shoes. Enjoy here
