About Us

The Danvers Historical Society, a private not-for-profit, was founded in 1889 “to discover, collect and preserve objects which illustrate local history, but particularly the history, development and people of the Town of Danvers”. The Historical Society owns two historic sites and a museum building. The society has many events, exhibits and fundraisers every year and is an important part of the community. Membership is open to everyone, and volunteers are always welcome!

Glen Magna Farms

Glen Magna Farms, survives unrivaled as an estate exemplifying North Shore summer living. It typifies the golden age of American gardens when eclecticism and historicism dominated landscape as well as architecture.

The National Historic Landmark, Derby Summer House stands within this magical property.

In 1963, the Danvers Historical Society purchased the central eleven acres of the property and has worked to restore the gardens and grounds to its early 20th century appearance. The Massachusetts Historical Commission and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society have recognized the garden preservation efforts.

Buildings & Collections

The Society maintains two historic properties: the Page House and Glen Magna Farms. The latter is a turn of the century country estate surrounded by a number of garden rooms, which are being restored to their appearance in the 1920s. The Page House, was built by patriot Jeremiah Page, and served as the first headquarters for the Society.

In addition, the Historical Society built Tapley Memorial Hall, which houses our collections and provides a wonderful exhibition hall and community center.
